Prospective students, area schools, the
campus community, and the public are invited to join us for the University of
Wisconsin-Whitewater Science Discovery Day on November 9th, 2012
from 12:30-3:30pm in Upham Hall.
Discover the sciences in a whole new way by taking part in hands on
activities like preforming organic synthesis, modeling transgenesis, walking
through a 3D chemical lab in the Second Life computer program, and becoming
part of the Discovery Day locational map.
Experience demonstrations on state of the art equipment, such as a
unique plasma reactor developed by our very own Physics Department and the
Atomic Force Microscope. See the
high-tech research being completed at our campus by our undergraduate research
students and faculty. Tour our
departments and labs. Sit down and visit
with the scientific experts who will excite visitors of all ages to become more
engaged in the sciences. Cap off the day
with an exciting lecture by Dr. Rex Hanger entitled “How old is the Earth and
how do we know?” from 8-9pm in Upham Hall 140 and viewing of our neighboring planets and stars through a
telescope at the Whitewater Observatory.
The brochure with specific times and event topics for this event, as well as additional information and updates, is available on our website at blogs.uww.edu/scienceoutreach.
